Children’s Health and Well-being in Somerset
As parents, we always strive to provide the best possible care for our children. When it comes to their health and well-being, exploring different avenues of holistic healthcare can be beneficial. One such avenue is pediatric chiropractic care, which focuses on the unique needs of children and aims to promote optimal development, support the nervous system, and enhance overall wellness.
Understanding Pediatric Chiropractic Care
Pediatric chiropractic care involves evaluating and treating spinal and musculoskeletal conditions in children. Chiropractors specializing in pediatric care receive specialized training to understand young patients’ unique anatomy and development. They use gentle and safe techniques to address any spinal misalignments or dysfunctions, known as subluxations, that may impact a child’s health.
The spine plays a crucial role in the nervous system’s function, and subluxations can interfere with the proper communication between the brain and the rest of the body. Pediatric chiropractors use gentle adjustments and manipulations tailored to the child’s age and size to correct these subluxations, supporting optimal nervous system function.
Best Milestones for Spinal Checkups
Did you know that the best time to get your spine checked for subluxations is when you’re an infant? The nervous system is needed for the proper growth and development of children. There are “windows of opportunity” when certain parts of the body and brain grow. If the nervous system is not working when the situation arises, it could be missed. So, get them checked early!
We recommend visits shortly after the birth process, as your baby starts to hold their head up, as they are learning to sit up, and then as they begin to crawl, stand, and walk.
Benefits of Pediatric Chiropractic
Enhanced Development and Function: Pediatric chiropractic care can improve a child’s overall development by ensuring proper spinal alignment and nervous system function. This can include cognitive function, motor skills, coordination, and sensory processing improvements.
Improved Immune System Function: The nervous and immune systems are closely interconnected. Pediatric chiropractic adjustments can help optimize immune system function, potentially reducing the frequency and severity of common childhood illnesses. A healthy immune system means fewer sick days and a stronger defense against infections.
Management of Musculoskeletal Conditions: Pediatric chiropractors are skilled in managing various musculoskeletal conditions commonly experienced by children. These may include colic, ear infections, torticollis, scoliosis, and sports-related injuries. By addressing the underlying cause of these conditions, chiropractic care can provide long-lasting relief and promote healing.
Support for Neurodevelopmental Disorders: While chiropractic care does not cure neurodevelopmental disorders like ADHD or ASD, it can provide supportive benefits. Chiropractic care may help improve behavior, focus, and overall well-being in children with these conditions by optimizing nervous system function.
“I went into Dr. D’Angiolillo’s office with my baby having difficulty sleeping, and he was able to help her with this issue as well as other issues as they arose. I now have all my family going to see her. Thank you for helping me and my family!”

Promotion of Healthy Habits: Pediatric chiropractors provide hands-on care and educate children and parents about healthy habits. This includes proper posture, ergonomics, exercise, and nutrition. By instilling these habits early on, chiropractic care encourages a lifelong commitment to wellness.
Spinal Checkups Are Vital
If your child is suffering from any of the following common conditions, it is essential to get their spine checked for vertebral subluxations – not as a treatment for these conditions, but because all children, especially if they are ill, need healthy spines. Being free of blockages to the flow of energy and information over their nervous system can make a big difference in your child’s physical and emotional health.

What Does the Treatment Involve?
Spinal adjustments for infants and young children involve light finger-tip adjustments to correct malfunctioning spinal structures. A light spinal adjustment, using no more than two pounds of pressure, is usually sufficient to restore mobility to spinal joints that have become locked and are interfering with the nervous system’s normal function. Most adjustments make a “popping” sound when the spinal joints are moved. However, this sound is not always heard when children’s spines are adjusted.
Does It Hurt?
Generally, no. However, very young infants sometimes take momentary fright at the sudden movement and may cry for a few seconds.
How Many Treatments Are Required?
Children’s spines are much more mobile than those of adults, and as a result, they usually require only a few adjustments to restore normal function. However, the actual number of adjustments may vary depending on the length of time the condition has been present.
